For therapy-seekers (ourselves and our friends included), it's common to spend hours online scrutinizing dense therapist profiles - only to be ignored or be put on a waitlist until 2024. Meanwhile, many newer therapists we spoke to felt intimidated by the idea of starting private practice or creating a great digital presence. They may end up joining group practices that take up to 50% of their pay, or get buried in dense directories with one (mismatched) referral every couple of months. We created Foundations of Care to bridge the gap between therapists and digitally-oriented therapy-seekers, so they (we) can find each other with less stress and effort.
As BIPOC founders, we've had multiple experiences of being overlooked or reassured by a therapist who seemed to miss the nuances of... not being white. We want to make it easier for BIPOC, immigrant and marginalized folks access specialized care. That means the providers we are speaking to must have significant working or lived experience in these ares to join the directory.
